Ryan Maric’s 300W Rooftop Tent Solar Setup

Weekends away, camping trips and time off-grid are a big part of why more people are upgrading their touring setups with solar.

Recently, West Coast Eagles player Ryan Maric brought his setup into Vehicle Solar Solutions for a 300W rooftop tent solar install designed to keep his auxiliary battery charged and his 12V accessories running while he’s away.

Built for Weekends Away

Ryan wanted a setup that would help power the gear he actually uses when he’s away from the nest.

With more touring setups now running fridges, lighting, charging systems and other 12V accessories, having reliable charging without needing to idle the vehicle or rely heavily on powered sites makes a huge difference.

To suit his setup, we installed a 300W flexible solar panel directly onto the rooftop tent.

The system helps keep the auxiliary battery topped up while parked up at camp or out exploring, making off-grid travel easier and more practical.

For this build, we used a 300W 12V ETFE Black Flexible Solar Panel designed for rooftop tents, caravans, campers, boats and touring vehicles.

The panel features the latest PERC 9BB solar cell technology with 23.5% high-efficiency output.

Compared to traditional mono solar panels, the 9 busbar cell design helps improve durability, reliability and overall power output while reducing the risk of cracking or damage across the solar cells.

The lightweight flexible construction also makes it ideal for rooftop tent applications where keeping weight down matters.
